"Get a band. GET…A…BAND. Play with people that you like to play with and people that like to play with you, and develop some music. Again, it’s always groups of people that develop music. In our music – which is a collective music – it takes all of us working together and that exchange of ideas." - Ron Miles

Ron has a new record out called Circuit Rider to be released October 14th, 2014. Trio with Bill Frisell and Brian Blade. It's amazing.
I think Ron's beautiful music is some of the hardest music to play. The songs he writes sound clear and simple, but are often orchestrated rhythmically and harmonically in very interesting and subtle ways.

In every moment, Ron finds the most beautiful melodies with the most heartening sound.
Together, Bill and Ron create some of the most compelling improvised counterpoint I've heard on record to date. They have been playing together for years now and have found a sound together that is very strong. [Ron and Bill made a duo record called Heaven in 2002. It's one of my favorites]
It's such a pleasure to hear Brian Blade play Ron's music. I find it endlessly interesting to listen to Brian move seamlessly through roles in the band. Sometimes he's the melody, sometimes the world.
In fact, the whole band is constantly in motion. They are playing a very sophisticated, role-based language. Everyone works to support one an other. It's not just a great trio. It's a band!
Ron is a wonderful person, a pillar of the Colorado jazz community, and an inspiration to everyone that has the opportunity to hear and play with him. I've been listening to Ron's playing for more than 10 years. I've listening to most of Ron's music and this is one of my favorite records so far. It's such a pleasure to hear Ron play with two of the giants of the jazz world. Ron Miles, Bill Frisell, and Brian Blade...Wow.
I hope you'll check out this record. Listen to Ron Miles. It's good for you.
